Peter Kay has crushed last year's X Factor winner Leon Jackson in their much-hyped chart battle.
The comedian went straight to No 2 with his spoof single The Winner’s Song, which he performs as transsexual character Geraldine McQueen.
Leon’s Don’t Call This Love trails at No 3.
Polydor bosses couldn’t be happier with the success of Peter's single, co-written with Gary Barlow.
‘We're delighted we've won the battle of the X Factor,’ a spokesperson tells the BBC. ‘I don't know what Simon Cowell is feeling right now but I know mid-week he wasn't happy with us because he's thrown a lot of weight behind Leon Jackson and gave him a real push.’
Peter, 35, debuted his single on spoof reality show Britain’s Got The Pop Factor…And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice, which was watched by 5.5million people last Sunday.
And he even sent a message of support to Leon, 19, as his character Geraldine.
'Leon is a lovely wee boy, he's a Scottish Michael Buble,' she says. 'There's enough room for everybody.'
Pink, 29, remained top of the charts for the third week with her tune So What.
