Nicola Roberts: I don't want to be a bronzed blonde

But Girls Aloud singer has learned to love her porcelain complexion

Nicola Roberts says he unusual looks used to make her feel insecure

Nicola Roberts has revealed that she never wanted to leave home when the sun was out.

The Girls Aloud singer's pale skin doesn't tan and she felt she stuck out like a sore thumb.

‘I used to absolutely dread summer,’ she says. ‘Don’t get me wrong – even though I’m totally embracing being pale, I still get nervous about putting on a bikini.

'You go to foreign countries and people are so tanned and I literally stand out… There is still a part of me that feels a little bit insecure.’

Fortunately Nicola, 23, has learned to embrace her unique look.

‘I stopped being so fixated on becoming this pretty, bronzed, blonde commercial-looking woman,' she says. 'I've started to lean towards wanting to be individual, left of the field and different.'
