Generous Chris Evans has splashed out on a £1 million pub in Monmouthshire for friend Leighton Davy.
The Radio 2 DJ became a huge fan of 30-year-old Leighton’s cooking after visiting him at the pub he worked in Newport on regular visits to the area with wife Natasha Shishmanian, 28.
So when he heard that the chef was leaving, Chris convinced offered to set him up in his own place in return for 20% of the profits.
‘Chris came in a week before I was due to leave for another job,’ Leighton tells the Daily Star. ‘I told him I was off, but he said he didn’t want me to leave and that he wanted to work something out.
‘He offered to buy a pub on the spot. I couldn’t believe what was happening. It’s the most generous thing anyone has done for me.’
Leighton is now installed at the Newbridge Inn in Tredunnock, near Usk. Chris, 42, also owns 2 other gastro pubs in Surrey.
