Actor wants to compete to honour his dad

Ryan Reynolds' father suffered Parkinson's disease

Ryan Reynolds will be raising money for Parkinson’s sufferers by competing in the New York City Marathon.

The 31-year-old actor watched his dad battle the disease for 15 years.

‘On 2 November I'll join thousands of other men and women to march in lockstep solidarity toward searing psychic pain and physical humiliation,’ he says.

‘Witnessing my dad suffer over the years galvanised my need to step up.’

Ryan married Scarlett Johansson, 23, in a secret ceremony last month.

‘No donation is too small - and certainly no donation is too large,’ he tells the Huffington Post.

Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez have all taken part in charity races over the last month.
