JK Rowling donated £1m to the Labour Party

JK Rowling's rakes in over £3million a week from the Harry Potter franchise, according to a new study.

The mum-of-three has topped a poll by Forbes to be named the biggest-earning author of 2008.

JK, who has a rumoured £560million fortune, is said to have raked in £160million in the 12 months up to June.

That figure was more than the rest of the top 10 put together.

‘It was wizardry that transformed JK Rowling from a destitute single mother on welfare into a best-selling billionaire,’ says Forbes.

‘Over on the big screen, her Potter franchise has already generated £2.1billion at the box office – and she still has three more flicks to come.’

JK, 43, has sold more than 375million books worldwide and is said to make around £100million from merchandising.
