SEE PICS Ant and Dec come under fire in Afghanistan

Comedy duo become terrorist targets as they go on morale-boosting mission

Ant 'n' Dec 16 March 2007
Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly are back soon with a new series of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly have revealed that they were attacked by the Taliban while in Afghanistan.

The comedy duo were in the war-torn country on a mission to boost morale amongst our troops.

But the pair, who had earlier visited Camp Bastion in Helmand Province to see injured soldiers, came under fire from missiles at Kandahar Airport during their trip.

They had to duck for cover when an opposition fighter fired a rocket-propelled grenade.

Ant, 32, has now praised the British troops for protecting him during the blast.

‘It was pretty hairy – not something I’d like to experience again,’ he tells the Daily Mirror. ‘All the guys around us were pulling on body armour.

'We couldn’t believe how close we were to being hit. It shows what our troops go through every day.’

Dec, 33, adds: ‘One minute everything was calm and the next the sirens were wailing. But it’s been an absolute privilege.’
