Audiences unhappy about relationship between Tony King and Whitney Dean
Friday, 19 September 2008
EastEnders has received over 200 complaints over its decision to run a child abuse storyline.
Last Friday the soap showed Bianca Jackson's boyfriend Tony King (Chris Coghill) arrive in Albert Square and reignite a relationship with his 15-year-old stepdaughter Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).
‘EastEnders has a rich heritage of tackling difficult social issues, such as domestic violence and mental health,’ a BBC spokesman says.
‘Our current storyline about child abuse is another such issue which had been created in association with the NSPCC and in accordance with BBC editorial policy.’
The episode saw Tony, who had been away in prison, kiss Whitney passionately before falling on a bed together.

i don't see why there is so many complaints about the peadophile story line. it is a delicate issue to bring up but it is happening so much now we need to be more aware of what is happening. i cant remember the last time i read a newspaper that didnt have an article about a peadophile. i think its briliant for eastenders to bring the subject up and protray it in a way that wont be too stressful or disturbing to watch. these people who have complained live in a fantasy world,do not wish to live in this reality were there is so much danger to our children. the more informaton we have on the issue the more we can do to prevent it.
i also think that Chris and Shona are brilliant actors and have protrayed their charaters very well. i just hope that chris doesn't get too much abuse from the public who may believe that he actually is tony!
i cant believe how people are complaining about this. this is ok to be shown on tv because it is real life so why are you going to complain. if you dont want your child/ren to watch it then dont let them there is no probelm in doing a scene about child abuse in eastenders. ITS REAL LIFE STOP COMPLAINING!
I think this is a great storyline and kids should watch it, if I makes just one child realise he/she is getting abused it's a good thing, a lot of people like to bury their heads in the sand thats what makes it so hard to bring up subjects like this....................well done eastenders!!!
