Singer's mum sets the record straight on TV

Britney Spears won 3 gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday

Lynne Spears has denied she was a stage mum who pushed Britney into the public eye.

The mum-of-3 said singing and dancing was all her daughter ever wanted to do.

‘Britney pushed me! What was I to do? Persuade my child not to go after her dreams?’ she says on US show Today.

Lynne, 53, says it took a few years before she experienced the dark side of fame.

‘There's the honeymoon phase at first,’ she recalls. 'Everything is fabulous. "Look at the wonderful trips she gets to go on! Look at the wonderful people she's meeting!"

'Then there's the ugly side of things that turns, and we weren't ready for that.’

Lynn says that 26-year-old Britney is happy with everything she's written in her memoir Through The Storm.

'She said she loved me,' Lynn asserts.
