George Takei and Brad Altman exchange vows in Buddhist ceremony
Monday, 15 September 2008
Star Trek’s George Takei – who played Sulu in the hit sci-fi series – has tied the knot with his partner Brad Altman.
The couple, who have been together for 21 years, exchanged vows in a Buddhist ceremony on Sunday.
Over 200 guests watched as they presented each other with turquoise rings.
'All I can remember is what the priest said,' George tells People. 'That this moment will never happen again. It's something to savour.'
They had the reception on the grounds of the Japanese American National Museum. George's former co-stars Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) and Walter Koenig (Chekov) were maid of honour and best man.
George, 71, announced his engagement in May, shortly after California overturned its ban on same sex marriages.
