Comedian confesses to using drugs in the past
Saturday, 4 October 2008
Alan Davies admits he had fun experimenting with drugs when he was younger.
The comedian, who started smoking cigarettes at 11, took Ecstasy and smoked marijuana.
‘I used to like a puff on the weed,’ he reveals. ‘I enjoyed E, but I only ever tried it a few times.’
But Alan, 42, has seen fellow comics destroy their careers by taking cocaine.
‘There were two or three really funny comedians who messed themselves up by getting a coke habit,’ he tells Observer Magazine.
‘One of my great comedy heroes – John Belushi – died after chronic cocaine abuse, so I’m a bit anti-class A.’
