America Ferrera: People think I look hot in real life

Actress says fans' low expectations work in her favour

America Ferrera stuns people with her off-screen beauty

America Ferrera says people are surprised by how good she looks when they meet her in real life.

The actress dons a frumpy costume, including wig and braces, to play Betty Suarez in the hit American show Ugly Betty.

So when viewers see her in her own clothes and with a metal-free mouth, they're impressed.

‘I can just walk out in jeans and a T-shirt and people are like: “Man, you look good!”’ she says.

‘I’m lucky in that respect.'

Despite the contrast, America, 24, says that getting ready for filming is a speedy process.

‘It doesn’t take as long as people might think for me to transform into Betty, unfortunately,’ she tells Celebs On Sunday. ‘It’s like 30 minutes now!’
