Comic regrets joke about promise rings

Russell Brand said sorry for teasing the Jonas Brothers about being virgins as he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
'Well done the Jonas Brothers. Each wear a ring to say they are not going to have sex,' he said.
'I'd take them more seriously if they wore it around their genitals.'
But his joke about Nick, 15, Joe, 18, and Kevin, 20, wasn't well received by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, 18.
‘It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut,’ she said as she collected her award.
Russ, 33, then gave a grovelling apology as he resumed his presenting duties.
‘I love the Jonas Brothers, think they're really good,' he said.
'I don't want to p*** off teenage fans, all right. In fact, quite the opposite.
'So promise rings, I'm well up for it, well done.’
Russ also labelled President George Bush a ‘retard’ and called Britney Spears ‘the female Christ’.

I'm not sure why Russell Brand should have to kowtow to the sexual preference of the Jonas Brothers. If they prefer to wait for marriage, then they should wait. But that's no excuse to pass judgment on those whose beliefs are different. The Jonas Brothers need to give people who don't choose abstinence the same respect they demand for themselves and their choices. Enough with the "holier than thou" routine and the double standard.
Meh, I thought Brand's remarks were hilarious. It's just comedy, people. Lighten up.
He also said "With that I don't mean I want to piss on fans" and "It's just that a bit of sex never hurt anybody". It's clear that his entire apology was in jest.
"American's understand the fact that he was insulting us all" thats because most americans are ****king xxxxxxxx.
