Unlike her beloved dad, Brits mum Lynne is rocking her new-found stability
Tuesday, 9 September 2008
As Britney Spears geared up to open the MTV Video Music Awards in LA on Sunday 7 September, she knew she had her father to thank for guiding her out of her dark, sometimes suicidal, struggle.
‘My father saved my life,’ Britney, 26, said of dad Jamie last week. ‘I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.’
But just when the pop princess is getting back on track, mum Lynne Spears, who’s done little to support her struggling daughter, is releasing a shocking tell-all book.
In Through The Storm: A Real Story Of Fame And Family In A Tabloid World, Lynne lifts the lid on her daughter’s wild teen years.
‘Britney and Lynne have always had a stormy relationship, but Britney’s furious about this,’ a friend tells Now.
Lynne says she caught Britney with alcohol when she was as young as 13, but tolerated her drinking ‘as long as she was there’.
‘It’s a bitter blow,’ says our source. ‘Britney had hoped that talk of her wild youth was behind her. She’s seen Lynne since the psychological meltdown that landed her in hospital last January, but they’ve never really mended their fences since they fell out when Britney split from Kevin Federline.’
