Chef says canapés on offer looked prehistoric
Tuesday, 2 September 2008
Gordon Ramsay has criticised the food served at Buckingham Palace.
The chef was made an OBE by the Queen for services to the hospitality industry in 2006.
But Gordon, 41, doesn't think the grub being served by her kitchen staff is up to scratch.
'You don't actually get to know who's cooking for the Queen - but I'd never employ him because the food was shit,' he tells US programme The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. ‘I'd never give him a job.
'The food was shit but she was lovely. Unfortunately you've got to go through the ceremony with the canapés which are just absolutely, shockingly shit.
'They looked prehistoric, like 300 years old, at Buckingham Palace.'
But a spokesman has played down his scathing remarks.
‘Gordon was invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace,’ he tells the Daily Mail.
‘I would direct you to the comments he made immediately afterwards in which he said he enjoyed the food there.'
Mark Flanagan has been head chef at the palace since 2002.
