Wife of French President wants to carry on Dianas charity work
Friday, 15 August 2008
Carla Bruni has revealed that she feels inspired by Princess Diana and wants to be like her.
Diana, Princess of Wales, dedicated her life to helping others before her death in a car crash in August 1997.
‘Diana inspires me as an example,’ she says. ‘She brought her simplicity and her humanity to important issues like the effects of landmines on civilians.’
Carla, 40, has fond memories of meeting Diana at a charity fashion show 14 years ago.
‘I gave her some flowers,’ she tells The Sunday Times magazine. ‘I remember a very young, very beautiful woman. She was already a legend.’
The ex-model says she wants to use her own status to continue the late Princess’s charity work.
‘I’d like to use the position linked to my husband, which is so unique and privileged and which opens doors, to help people.
‘I want to dedicate my myself to fighting ignorance, poverty and injustice.’
Carla married French President Nicolas Sarkozy, 53, on February 2.
