Terry Wogan quits Eurovision Song Contest

Presenter says it's time for someone else to take on the job

Tuesday, 12 August 2008

Terry Wogan has revealed that he's hosted his last Eurovision Song Contest.

The presenter has fronted the BBC1 coverage of the show since it began in 1973, but says he's finally decided to call it a day.

‘I was considering giving up before Belgrade this year,’ he tells the Radio Times. ‘And I’m very doubtful about wanting to do Eurovision again.

‘It’s time someone else took over.’

In this year’s contest British entry Andy Abraham finished last with just 14 points.

How sad that Terry has decided to pack it up, although I don't blame him. I used to enjoy the Eurovision back in the 70's and 80's, but now it's too tacky and very poorly managed. It was Terry who kept me tuning in to laugh at his sartorial comments. The voting system is a joke, and Terry is right the UK will never win it again, so as Terry has quit, so have I.
