Martin Bashir has apologised after he made inappropriate comments during a prestigious dinner in Chicago last week.
The journalist was addressing media bigwigs at the Asian American Journalists Association banquet to champion the cause of minority groups.
‘I’ve never been around so many Asian babes in my life,’ he said. ‘In fact, I’m mightily relieved that the podium covers me from the waist downwards. I’ve been having trouble all evening.’
Martin, 45 – who is best-known for his TV interviews Michael Jackson, 50, and the late Princess Diana – then upset one of his ABC News co-workers.
‘[A speech] is like a dress on a beautiful woman,’ he said. ‘It has to be long enough to cover the important parts and short enough to keep you interested. My colleague Juju Chang has achieved this on both points.’
Now he’s written a letter to the Association saying sorry for the 'tasteless remarks', reports the Daily Mail.
Martin's bosses at ABC commented: 'This kind of remark has no place in any setting and Martin knows that and is truly sorry for his serious error in judgment.'
