Mel B plans to get pregnant to keep the peace

But even a new baby can't paper over the cracks in the Spice Girl's marriage...

Mel B's controlling husband Stephen Belafonte is demanding that she conceives a baby.

While the Spice Girl has been filming new US reality show The Singing Office, the couple, both 33, have not been getting on - but Mel wants to keep the peace.

‘She’s been telling her friends that even though she’s not ready, she feels that getting pregnant might be the only way to stop them rowing,’ says our well-placed source.

‘They’re arguing mainly about his jealousy. He wants to be around her 24/7 and she tells him that she finds that suffocating and to give her some space.

'She gets on very well with a couple of the male production staff on the show and Stephen goes crazy when he sees her texting or calling them.

'She’s antagonistic by nature and the more it winds him up, the more she does it. They end up quarrelling over something almost every single day.'

Mel is mum to Phoenix, 9, (whose dad is ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar) and Angel, 16 months, who was fathered by Eddie Murphy.
