Ugly Betty star Michael Urie avoids booze – because he fears he could end up doing something stupid.

The actor, who plays Marc St James in the show, was put off by Mel Gibson, 52, who was arrested for drink driving in 2006.

‘It’s too scary,’ he says. ‘I don’t want to go to jail. I don’t want to end up like Mel Gibson.’

Michael, 27, insists he’s just a normal guy from Texas.

‘I host a theatre awards show in Dallas and they are the most genuine, nice, good-hearted people,’ he tells Metro.

‘I wish George Bush would stop pretending he’s Texan; he’s from Connecticut.’
