Teary Madonna finally cracks

Madge breaks down over affair rumours

Work and marriage pressures are taking their toll on Madonna

When Guy Ritchie was pictured hand-in-hand with a stony-faced Madonna in New York on 13 July, the singer looked every bit the tough negotiator, railroading Guy into delaying the announcement of the end of their marriage until the completion of her world tour at the end of November.

But the truth is, Guy only agreed to fly out to New York after a tearful phone conversation with his 49-year-old wife two days previously. Now has learned that Guy, 39, confronted her about rumours she’d cheated on him with baseball player Alex Rodriguez – known as A-Rod – and Madonna burst into tears.

‘Guy was furious and decided it was time to just come out with it,’ a friend tells Now. ‘He called Madonna and asked her outright if she’d been having an affair.

'Much to his surprise, she just burst into tears and insisted she hadn’t. It was only then that Guy backed down a bit and he believes Madonna’s telling the truth.

‘Secretly Guy does think Madonna was stupid to let A-Rod get so close, as he’s told friends there was obviously some kind of “connection” between them from the moment A-Rod joined the Kabbalah set at the beginning of the year. Guy told one friend he thinks Kabbalah is “full of wankers” and that it’s brought them nothing but misery as a couple.’
