Housemates evacuated after a hoax call
Monday, 7 July 2008
Big Brother producers evacuated housemates after a bomb scare early yesterday morning.
The sleeping contestants had to be woken up and removed after a call from a member of the public.
Police performed a sweep of the set in Elstree, Herts, but found no dodgy devices.
‘There was a bomb scare and we removed the housemates as a safety precaution,’ said a spokesman.
‘But it turned out to be a hoax call.’
Channel 4 bosses cut the live feed from 2.40am and the contestants didn’t return to the compound for 2 hours.
The last time there was a major bomb scare was during series 4 in 2003, when workers found a suspect package in a nearby TV studio.
