Hollyoaks' gay student John-Paul McQueen is quitting after almost 2 years on the soap.

Actor James Sutton, 25, says he wants to focus on new roles.

'I’ve had a really great time working on Hollyoaks but, after much thought, I’ve decided that it’s time to bring it to an end,' he says.

'I’m really grateful to the viewers for their support and commitment to the character and the storyline.'

James, 25, will film his last scenes in July – and they will be seen on screen in September.

His exit storyline is believed to involve ex lover Craig Dean, played by Guy Burnett, 25, who will make an explosive comeback to try to rekindle their romance.
