Former EastEnders actress urges teens to stop the violence
Tuesday, 1 July 2008
Former EastEnders actress Brooke Kinsella has made an emotional plea to stop knife crime after the murder of her teenage brother.
Ben Kinsella, who was just 16, died at the Whittington Hospital on Sunday after being stabbed several times when a row broke out between several teenagers outside the Shillibeers pub in Islington, north London.
Leading the tributes to the aspiring actor, Brooke urges teenagers to think about the consequences of carrying a weapon.
‘My family are determined to fight in his memory to make the streets safer for our children,’ she says. 'Please, boys and girls, put down your knives and weapons and think about the pain and suffering they will cause.
'Parents, please talk to your children and encourage them to stop all this violence. Now is truly the time to stand up and put an end to this.
'We always knew that Ben would make a special mark in this world and, although this is in the worst possible circumstances, hopefully he will be the one that finally puts an end to this.’
Brooke, 24 – who played Kelly Taylor in the BBC soap – also spoke of her own relationship with Ben.
‘He really was one of the kindest, gentlest and talented boys God has ever created,’ she added. ‘He had a heart of gold and the love and joy he gave to everybody is proven by the vast number of people who have sent their condolences and prayers.’
Ben had acted in roles in The Bill and Seven Wonders Of The Industrial World.
