Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have given £500,000 to a charity that aims to help children affected by the war in Iraq.

The couple have pledged the gift to support Education Partnership For Children Of Conflict.

‘These educational support programmes for children of conflict are the best way to help them heal,’ Angelina says.

The charity, which 33-year-old Angelina co-founded last year, has put aside £250,000 for the Armed Service YMCA Operation Hero Program.

The other £250,000 will be divided between Women For Women International; The International Rescue Committee and NineMillion.org, which is part of the United National High Commissioner For Refugees.

‘We hope to encourage others to give to these great organisations,’ Brad tells People.

Brad, 44, and Angelina are expecting twins in August. They are also parents to Shiloh, 2, and adopted kids Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3.
