Docs say she risks her life if she continues smoking drugs
Monday, 23 June 2008
The cause of Amy Winehouse's shock collapse last week has been revealed – she's developed chronic lung disease.
The singer was rushed to hospital last Monday after falling at her London home.
Doctors were at first unclear as to the cause, but tests have now shown she has emphysema.
And medics have warned Amy that she could die if she doesn't quit drugs.
‘It’s in its early stages but, had it gone on for another month, they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there with a mask on her face struggling to breathe,’ dad Mitch, 57, tells The Metro.
‘The doctors have told her that if she goes back to smoking drugs, it won’t just ruin her voice – it will kill her.’
Amy, 24, is still determined to appear at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday gig on Friday in London's Hyde Park.

please Amy not only for sake of your fans but more importantly for yourself try and stop smoking, i know you think "yeh easy for you to say", but i too was a forty a day, until two years ago when diagnosed with emphysema, the news that i only had 25% lung capacity, frightened me into kicking the habit, i am old enough to be your mother and need oxygen to keep me going when i go to bed at night and take a multitude of medication - and you are only 24, think about it
