Dirty Pretty Things frontman may have to give up booze for good
Thursday, 19 June 2008
Carl Barat was rushed to casualty on Tuesday after complaining of severe stomach pains.
The Dirty Pretty Things frontman has since been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis.
Carl, who founded The Libertines with Pete Doherty, is now undergoing tests to assess whether he needs an operation.
The potentially life-threatening condition can be caused by excessive drinking – which may mean the rocker has to give up booze for good.
‘Carl likes a drink, like most rock stars — but there are lots who cane it far more than him,’ a source tells The Sun.
‘The world isn’t fair if Carl can never touch alcohol again while his former bandmate Pete Doherty continues abusing his body.’
Carl, 30, has cancelled a charity gig the band were due to play on Friday, but says he hopes to be back on stage soon.
