Singer found not guilty after month-long trial
Monday, 16 June 2008
R Kelly has been acquitted on all counts at his child pornography trial.
The singer was accused of making a 27-minute sex tape with an underage girl 10 years ago.
But after a month-long trial at a Chicago court, he was found not guilty.
R Kelly, 41 – full name Robert Kelly – and the alleged victim both denied they were the couple in the video.
The prosecution's key witness was a woman who said she'd had sex with both the singer and the girl.
But defence lawyers argued the man in the footage couldn't be the R Kelly as he didn't have the distinctive mole on his back that the R&B star has.
As the verdict was read out, the singer clasped his attorneys' hands and prayed, saying: 'Thank you, Jesus, thank you,' as the clerk read out each not guilty verdict.
