Paul Newman 'doing nicely' despite lung cancer rumours

Statement released by actor's rep is unclear

Paul Newman says he's 'doing nicely'

Oscar-winner Paul Newman has responded to reports he’s been diagnosed with lung cancer.

But he’s failed to confirm or deny if he’s got the disease.

‘Newman says he's doing nicely,’ the actor’s rep Jeff Sanderson tells Reuters.

'I spoke to his office [in Connecticut]. This is the statement that came directly from him.’

Despite the baffling official line, US sources insist Paul, 83, is receiving treatment for lung cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan.

The veteran movie star, who announced his retirement last year, has appeared frail in recent pictures.

He has been married to 2nd wife, Joanne Woodward, 78, for 50 years. They have 3 daughters. He also has 3 children with his 1st wife Jackie Witte.

Paul picked up an Academy Award in 1986 for The Color Of Money, which he starred in with Tom Cruise, 45.
