Ben Affleck says the whole 'Bennifer' thing with Jennifer Lopez became too much for them both

Ben Affleck: Jennifer Lopez and I were a mistake

Actor says the media attention around them was unbearable

Sunday, 26 October 2008

Ben Affleck has admitted that he regrets his romance with Jennifer Lopez.

The 36-year-old actor says their relationship span out of control before either of them realised.

‘I think Jen and I made a mistake in that we fell in love, we were excited and maybe too accessible,’ he tells Live.

‘I don’t think either of us anticipated the degree to which it would take on a world of its own.’

The couple started dating in 2002 after meeting on set of Gigli, but they broke up shortly before they were due to wed in September 2004.

Ben is now married to Jennifer Garner, 36. They have a 2-year-old daughter Violet.

Jen, 39, has 9-month-old twins Max and Emme with husband Marc Anthony, 40.

this guy takes himself very seriously. in reality he is an actor who can't act. don't believe me, watch ''gigli''. i watched him on bill mahers' show, he's an idiot. i heard he may run for the senate, he would fit right in with those dopes.

You know it's publicity-time when he dusts off "bennifer". He used to complain about the media intruding on them. Now after five-plus years, it seems obvious: he wanted out, and the plan was to embarrass /frustrate Jenn Lopez enough to officially throw in the towel (aka: "saving face"). Maybe the cynics were right all along about the calculation in His attraction. He baled after "Gigli" tanked, a role he had signed for himself. Now it's Jennifer Lopez who surprised me, for the better. I'm happy she went back with Marc Anthony. I find their love inspiring; it feels genuine and strong. "El Cantante"? A movie (which I liked btw): but it's not their marriage. She's learned to set priorities (family). She doesn't bring up Ben. She also learned to politely divert the press when they tried bringing up the past. Does Ben want to look ahaead? It doesn't appear so. And no excuses. If he can't redirect the press by now, he'd better forget a career in politics!
