Sharon Stone apologises for China earthquake gaffe

Actress offers to take part in relief work

Saturday, 31 May 2008

Sharon Stone has said sorry for the controversial comments she made about China’s earthquake.

At the Cannes Film Festival last week, the actress claimed the natural disaster could be ‘karma’ for China’s poor treatment of Tibetans.

But now Sharon, 50, has apologised and wants to help with the aid effort.

‘Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people,’ she said.

‘I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.’

Sharon's statement was released by cosmetics giant Christian Dior, who she models for.

The company has dropped her from its Chinese ad campaigns.

The earthquake struck south-west China on 12 May, leaving more than 68,000 people dead.

The earthquake happens in a poor region of China. Many parents lost their children and many other children lost their parents during the big earthquake. A lot of them are Buddhists and many are superstitious. They are innocent people and they are suffering deep. To call this suffer a karma is completely out of line. To those victims, karma implies the reason that they suffer is because they did sinful things in their previous life, and they will go to hell in their next life. Instead of providing psychological supports, Sharon Stone is putting the salts into the deep wounds of the earthquake victims. By saying those words, she is showing that she is anything but a reasonable human being.

Why LVMH only drops Ms Stone from China advertisement and not worldwide? My family and friends wont buy their products until Ms stone is removed fr LVMH advertisement worldwide. Meanwhile we pray for those who suffered the tragedy.

I have watched her interview re. China earthquake. She has no rights to judge!! After her interview with NY Times, I found her apologie was a rubbish. As a public person, she has to take responsibility on her words. I am now marked her as a brainless artist, and not that interested in buying anything she models for.

We lost our only child to suicide last year. I have not figured out what we have done to deserve such a horrible tragedy. Because our child's death, we also got to know many lost their loved nes to suicide every year. What is Ms. Stone's view of these tragic death, the karma that so many families deserve?
