Dame Shirley Bassey is due to perform at Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday concert

Dame Shirley Bassey has had an emergency operation on her stomach.

The Welsh singer was taken to hospital in Monaco, where she now lives, with abdominal pains last week.

‘[She is] making a good recovery and doctors are happy with her progress,’ says her spokesman Paul Carey.

Dame Shirley, 71 – who sang Pink's hit Get The Party Started for the Christmas Marks & Spencer campaign – is due to fly to the UK next month for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday concert in Hyde Park.

Among her best known hits are her 3 James Bond themes Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger and Moonraker.
