Singer will help raise money for the Samaritans
Tuesday, 13 May 2008
Pete Doherty is to take part in a charity football match – just days after leaving jail.
The singer was released from Wormwood Scrubs last week as part of a scheme to reduce overcrowding.
But now he’s released, he’ll be able to join his team to defend their title at the Samaritans Celebrity Soccer Six football tournament at Millwall FC on Sunday 18 May.
Pete, 29, and his band Babyshambles won the competition last year.
They will try to reclaim the gold by taking on groups Mcfly and The Twang, and celebs including Noel Fielding, 34, Simon Webbe, 29, Michelle Heaton, 27, and Jade Goody, 26.
‘Soccer Six is a fantastic day for everyone involved,’ Claire Duncan from Samaritans tells Now Online. ‘It allows Samaritans to raise awareness of the 24:7 emotional support that we offer.'
