Tom Cruise urged to seek medical help after asbestos scare

Actor thought to have come into contact with carcinogenic on Scientology cruise ship

Monday, 12 May 2008

Tom Cruise has been urged to seek medical help after an asbestos scare on board the Scientology cruise ship Freewinds.

The actor, 45, has spent time aboard the £1million vessel for meetings and seminars in the past.

But local news reports in Curaco, where the boat is anchored, claim deadly blue asbestos dust has been released during its refurbishment.

Doctors have warned anyone who may have come in contact with the substance, which can cause lung cancer, to seek immediate medical assistance.

But Tom’s rep says he has ‘absolutely no knowledge’ of the scare.

A spokesperson for the ship has also denied he could have been at risk. ‘The Freewinds regularly inspects air quality on board and always meets or exceeds US standards,’ the rep tells the Daily Star Sunday.

Blair - I understand the Freewinds was built to transport motor cars, not to be a passenger ship. It was converted to a passenger ship, but the asbestos remained.

Huh? I have worked on, as in refurbished boats. Blue Asbestos is only used on heavy transports, ships that transport fire prone cargo. Only seen it once. Yeah Blue Asbestos is bad news, so much so that it has never been installed on a passenger ship, so maybe there is some kinda mix up.

Sadly, it won't have been Scientology who brought this information to light. It's Anonymous individuals who found the original press article, then promptly followed up and unearthed Lawrence Woodcraft's 2001 affidavit that declares Scientology knew about the asbestos in 1985. That's right, kids -- Scientology's known that plague ship had asbestos on it for almost 30 years, and put people on it anyway. Not good behaviour for a "Church", is it? Stay informed. Enturbulation.org is a good starting point; and stay away from those free stress tests!

The scientology leaders have known this ship was absolutely rife with blue asbestos, at least since the 1987. They chose not to do anything about it because their eccentric leader, L Ron Hubbard, who famously said that NOT smoking would give you cancer, hadn't specifically told them that asbestotos is dangerous. I wish I was making this up. Former Scientologist Lawrence Woodcraft discovered masses of blue asbestos in 1987, and reported to the church. The captain of the ship admitted that during maintenance asbestos was released into the ventilation system but not reported to any of the victims aboard, then or since. Your life is in their hands, scientologists. Have you got the wake-up call, yet? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freewinds
