Biography
One of Hollywood’s richest women, Jennifer Aniston shot to stardom thanks to her role as Rachel in Friends – and her short marriage to heart-throb actor Brad Pitt.
Born in LA and raised in New York, Jennifer jobbed as a waitress and bike messenger while working in off-Broadway theatre. She considered giving up acting after appearing in a string of failed TV shows and the heavily criticised 1993 horror flick, Leprechaun, but a chance audition for NBC sitcom Friends transformed her fortunes.
She persuaded producers to cast her as Rachel Green – rather than Monica Geller – and played the character from 1994 until the hit show ended a decade later. As well as an Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series, Jennifer became a household name – and her layered hairdo launched an international craze for ‘The Rachel’.
The popularity of Friends kick-started Jennifer’s film career. Her biggest box office success to date was opposite Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty (2003), but her girl-next-door image made her a hit in rom-coms such as The Object Of My Affection (1998), Along Came Polly (2004) and The Break-Up (2006).
Jennifer had had her own break-up to deal with just a year earlier when she divorced Brad five years after their lavish Malibu wedding. Although Brad denied an affair with his Mr & Mrs Smith co-star, Angelina Jolie, golden couple ‘Brad ’n’ Jen’ quickly became ‘Brangelina’ – with Jennifer painted by the press as the injured party.
Despite a brief relationship with Vince Vaughn and rumours linking her to singer John Mayer, Jennifer – estimated to be worth more than £55 million – is still looking for her leading man.
