Sunday Times Rich List puts his fortune at £500 million
Thursday, 24 April 2008
Sir Paul McCartney is worth £500m, according to a newspaper report to be published this weekend.
That's 25% more than the £400m his fortune was estimated at in his court battle with ex Heather Mills.
Compilers of the Sunday Times Rich List claim the court did not take into account the proceeds of his first wife Linda's will – and underestimated the value of his back catalogue.
Macca, 65, has slipped to 158 on the 2008 list. He was placed at 102 last year.
But it's still way off the £800m Heather, 40, insists he is worth. She was awarded £24.3m in their divorce settlement.
'It is possible that for the purposes of his wealth in the court hearing that [Linda's estate] was not considered to be part of McCartney's wealth,' expert Cliff Dane tells the Daily Mail.
'It is not owned by him, but by a trust which is controlled by trustees and not him personally.'
Sir Paul's spokesman refused to comment.
