Wills uses RAF chopper to visit girlfriend
Monday, 21 April 2008
Prince William flew a £10m helicopter to visit girlfriend Kate Middleton earlier this month, it has emerged.
Wills landed the RAF chopper in her back garden in Bucklebury, Berkshire, during a 2-hour military exercise on 3 April, which is estimated to have cost around £30k.
Kate's family home is 16 miles from the Odiham RAF base.
William, 25, completed a circuit of the Middletons' land and practised landing and taking off in their paddock, as Kate, 26, and her parents watched.
'Battlefield helicopters routinely practice landing in fields and confined spaces away from their airfields as a vital part of their training for operations,' a Ministry Of Defence spokesman tells the Daily Mail.
'The sortie on 3 April was fully authorised and planned and was an agreed part of Prince William's attachment to the RAF.'
It is the second time that William, 25, who is undergoing an intensive 4-month training course in the forces, has used an RAF Chinook to fit in a personal visit.
He also used the helicopter to fly to a stag do on the Isle of Wight and even stopped off in London to pick up his brother Prince Harry, 23, on the way.
William was awarded his pilot wings earlier this month in a ceremony at RAF Cranwell, Lincs.
Clarence House declined to comment.
