BBC3 comedy double winner at the awards bash
Monday, 21 April 2008
James Corden picked up 2 TV Baftas last night - both for comedy series Gavin And Stacey.
James, 29, who co-writes the show with Ruth Jones, won Best Comedy Performance for his role as 'Smithy' and the BBC3 show also won the Sky+ Audience Award for Programme Of The Year.
On stage to collect his first Bafta, James praised Ruth, who also plays a Welsh barmaid in Little Britain.
'She is not just the greatest writer and actress, she is the best friend anyone could hope for. I share this with her,' he said.
Then Ruth Joined the 'absolutely gobsmacked' James on stage to collect the show's second award.
'We always thought we were making something that might be good, but not that it would have this much impact on the people who watch it,' he admits.
James denies rumours that he's having a romance with another close pal, singer Lily Allen
'She is just a mate of mine that I have gone out with a couple of times,' he tells BBC News. 'It's nothing like the tabloids say.'
Comedian Harry Hill was also a double winner - he scooped Best Entertainment Performance and Programme for Harry Hill's TV Burp.
