Talk show host had to motivate herself so she could battle disease
Friday, 18 April 2008
Trisha Goddard has spoken for the first time about her battle against breast cancer - and she says almost gave up.
‘For me, the worst bit has been in my head,’ she says. ‘Not knowing if I will be around in the future. One part of me thinks: “Why me?” but on the other hand, why wouldn't it be me?
'I was a bit overwhelmed. There is that fear about not seeing your daughters grow up.’
But Trisha, 50, says she gave herself a pep talk and is determined to beat the disease.
‘There was a split second where I wanted to go mad but then I said to myself: “Shut up and get on with the drill,”’ she says. ‘You can scream and shout but it won’t change the results.'
On Tuesday, doctors told her the good news that the cancer has not spread.
‘Obviously there's going to be treatment of some sort, but I don't know yet,’ she says. 'I deliberately don't think any further than the week ahead.’
Trisha, who is married to Peter Gianfrancesco, has 2 daughters - Billie, 18, and Madi, 13.
