But suicide TV presenter's absence will not be explained to young viewers
Friday, 18 April 2008
CBBC show SMart is to return for another series – despite the death of host Mark Speight.
The TV presenter went missing last week and was found hanged on Sunday in a remote area of London's Paddington station.
But his absence from the programme will not be explained to viewers.
'Our hearts go out to the families but we will continue making the show as it is hugely popular with kids,' a source tells The Sun.
Mike Fischetti and Kirsten O'Brien, 36, will replace him when the new series starts in the autumn.
Mark, 42, had been struggling to cope with the loss of fiancée Natasha Collins, who died on 3 January at their London flat from an overdose and severe burns.
He was originally arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs but no charges were brought. A coroner recorded a verdict of death by misadventure for Natasha.
Mark had been staying with Natasha's mother since her death, but failed to meet her in a Covent Garden café before his disappearance on Monday last week. He was found hanged at Paddington 6 days later.
A full inquest into his death will open in May.
