Star ‘heartbroken’ over death of Joanne Harris
Thursday, 17 April 2008
Big Brother 1 winner Craig Phillips has broken his silence over the loss of childhood friend Joanne Harris – saying he’s ‘saddened’ by her death.
The builder made headlines in 2000 when he donated his £70,000 cash prize from the first series of the reality show to her. Joanne, 25, suffered with Down’s Syndrome and the money was to help fund a heart and lung transplant.
She died in hospital in Birmingham last week after contracting an infection.
Craig, 36, is said to be 'heartbroken' after losing such a close pal.
‘This is clearly a sad time for Joanne’s family and friends. Craig and his family are saddened and heartbroken, and they pass on their deepest sympathies and thoughts to Joanne’s family at this time,’ a statement released by his PA Alan Hamilton says.
‘Craig wishes to thank the public on behalf of all Joanne’s family for the many messages of condolence which have already been received.’
