Supermodel insists she was in the right during airport altercation
Thursday, 17 April 2008
Naomi Campbell has broken her silence over her recent arrest on suspicion of assault at Heathrow Airport - insisting she was making a stand on behalf of passengers.
She says she’s tired of the way the public are treated by airlines and compares the ugly scenes at Terminal 5 to the chaos in Brazil during an air traffic controllers' strike last year.
‘I saw then what was happening,’ she tells a Brazilian newspaper. ‘Desperate persons in your airports, arguing, crying, children getting ill.
'The case in Terminal 5 at Heathrow was the same thing and I am not speaking for myself. I am speaking for all those who have been disrespected.’
Naomi, 37, has been banned from flying on British Airways flights after allegedly spitting in a police officer's face during an incident on 3 April.
The supermodel is reported to have become angry and upset after being told one of her bags had not been put on a flight to LA - because it was too heavy.
But now she claims BA have begged her to use them again.
'Someone from BA called me and asked that I return to fly with them,’ she insists. 'But that won't be happening soon.'
Naomi is currently on bail pending further enquiries. She spent 7 hours in police custody after the incident.
