EXCLUSIVE Pete Doherty's manager slams prison drug allegations

Rep says singer is 'healthy, lucid and positive'

Pete Doherty's manager has played down tabloid reports claiming he is taking heroin in prison.

The singer is currently in Wormwood Scrubs serving a 14-week sentence for breaking the terms of his probation.

Tabloid reports allege that Pete, 29, is using illegal drugs that have been smuggled intot he prison – despite being on heroin substitute methadone.

But his manager Adrian Hunter has hit out at the claims.

'In our contact with Peter since his incarceration he has been healthy, lucid and positive,' he tells Now Online.

'Peter is trying to carry out his sentence with dignity and should be allowed to do so without intrusion.'

A Prison Service spokesman says they will look into the claims: 'We will act on any intelligence which indicates drugs are being smuggled or abused.'

Newspapers have also printed the first photos of Pete in jail, taken on a camera phone.

He's seen wearing a prison-issue blue T-shirt and grey tracksuit bottoms.

The Daily Star claims Amy Winehouse's husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, who is currently being held on remand at Pentonville Prison, has been writing letters to Pete to give him tips on how to survive in jail.
