Model prepares to tell all about her childhood in autobiography
Wednesday, 23 April 2008
Jerry Hall has revealed that her dad John, a former US Army sergeant, would beat her and her 4 sisters when they were children.
The model, 51, says the abuse as they grew up in Texas was so bad that he often ‘broke bones’.
She claims she only escaped the beatings when she fled home at the age of 16.
‘He would talk to us like soldiers,’ she says. ‘He was very violent. He would come home and beat us girls. He broke bones. It is a terrible thing to be living in fear.’
Jerry says John, who died of cancer in 1977, has always longed for a son, which is why he gave his daughters boy's names.
And she says that writing about the experience in her forthcoming autobiography has helped her deal with it.
‘Writing about it is very cathartic,’ she says.
