Biography

Famous for her pout, designer handbags and football-icon husband David, Victoria Beckham has gone from pop star ‘Posh Spice’ to fashionista, mother and celebrity mega brand.

Brought up in wealthy Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire, Victoria enrolled at theatre school after being inspired by hit film Fame. She successfully answered an ad in The Stage magazine in 1993 to become one of the five Spice Girls, along with Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell. With nine No.1 singles – including debut Wannabe – and more than 55 million records sold worldwide, the band were one of the leading pop acts of the 1990s.

It was while she was in the group that Victoria – dubbed Posh Spice by the tabloids – caught the eye of rising Manchester United footballer David Beckham in 1997. Quickly christened ‘Posh and Becks’ by the media, the hot new celebrity couple were married in 1999 and were photographed by OK! magazine seated on golden thrones.

Victoria launched her solo career in 2000 and just missed out on the top spot with Out Of Your Mind, a collaboration with Dane Bowers and Truesteppers. But further releases flopped and in the same year she turned her attention instead to fashion, modelling for Maria Grachvogel at London Fashion Week. She has since launched her dvb range of jeans and sunglasses, fragrances, a fashion advice book – That Extra Half An Inch (2006) – and graced the cover of British Vogue in 2008.

David and Victoria have three sons – Brooklyn (born 1999), Romeo (2002) and Cruz (2005) – but their relationship hasn’t always been smooth running. In 2004, allegations surfaced that David had had an affair with former personal assistant Rebecca Loos while playing for Real Madrid, but he denied them and Victoria publicly confirmed their love for each other.

A move to Los Angeles in 2007 – after David signed for LA Galaxy – elevated Victoria and her husband to Hollywood A-listers and the pair have wasted no time making friends with fellow celebrity power couples such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Despite rumours of catfights between the Spice Girls, they began a comeback world tour in 2007, ensuring that Victoria remains a paparazzi favourite and boosting the Beckhams’ estimated £112 million joint wealth.
