Biography
Thanks to media interest in her Manchester United and England footballer fiancé, Wayne Rooney, Coleen McLoughlin has become a celebrity in her own right.
Liverpool born and bred, aspiring actress Coleen reportedly began dating Wayne at 16, when the pair were in their final year at secondary school. Despite landing a small part in Hollyoaks after finishing her A levels, she put an acting career on hold, accepting an engagement ring from Wayne just a year later.
From paparazzi shots of her as a shy schoolgirl, Coleen has transformed herself into a famed shopaholic and one of the most prominent of the footballers’ wives, or WAGs – notably at the 2006 World Cup. Despite being derided for her early tracksuit-and-fake-tan ‘chav’ style, she made her modelling debut in British Vogue in 2005 and later netted a £3 million advertising campaign for George at Asda.
As her profile has increased, Coleen has reaped the benefits of various endorsements and media work, including a column in Closer magazine, an autobiography – Welcome To My World – and an exercise video. She is also a supporter of charities including Jeans for Genes Day – Coleen’s younger sister Rosie has the genetic disorder Rett syndrome.
Despite previous reports that claimed Wayne had cheated on her with prostitutes when they were first seeing each other, Coleen wed English football’s talisman on 20 June 2008 at a lavish ceremony on the Italian Riviera.
