Babyshambles frontman locked up for 14 weeks
Tuesday, 8 April 2008
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has been jailed for 14 weeks. He was locked up because of his continued drug use and for failing to turn up to probation hearings on time.
Pete was at West London Magistrates Court today to hear Judge Davinder Lachar hand out the sentence.
The singer, 29, had been given a suspended jail sentence for possession of drugs and driving offences last October.
Under the terms of his supervision order he was meant to make regular visits to the court and take part in a drug rehabilitation programme.
The 14-week sentence means he will miss his 26 April show at the Royal Albert Hall. He was also due to headline Glastonbury in June.
A spokesman at his record label Parlophone said his London show will be rescheduled. 'All tickets will be valid for the new date once it has been announced.
'Peter was very much looking forward to the show and would like to offer his sincerest apologies to all his fans and all those concerned.'
