Pregnant Natasha Kaplinsky won't receive any maternity pay

Newsreader was hired on a freelance not a staff contract

Natasha Kaplinsky announced this week that she's three months pregnant, but the Five newsreader – who earns £1 million a year – won’t receive receive any maternity pay from the TV channel.

Natasha became Britain’s highest paid presenter when Five lured her from the BBC, but as she was hired on a freelance contract she isn't entitled to any payout when she takes time off to have the baby.

‘Natasha is only paid when she is here,’ an insider tells the Daily Mail. ‘She will not be getting maternity pay.‘

Natasha, 35, has increased viewing figures by a massive 72 per cent since she took over the news bulletin.

She is due to give birth in October to her first child with husband Justin Bower.
