Coronation Street’s Maria Connor is to suffer a miscarriage in the ITV1 soap.
The hairdresser – played by Samia Smith, 25 – is rushed to hospital when her unborn child stops kicking.
Maria then has to give birth to the lifeless child without screen husband Liam – played by Rob James-Collier, 29.
Show insiders promise that it will be one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the soap’s history.
‘The scripts are absolute tearjerkers,’ a source tells The Sun. ‘Because the pregnancy is so advanced, the midwives advise her to have labour induced straight away.
'So she has to go through the terrible ordeal of giving birth to her lifeless baby.’
The scenes will air on ITV1 at the end of April.
