Singer says she didn't fit in
Monday, 31 March 2008
Madonna says she had a hard time at school because her classmates thought she was ‘weirdo’.
The singer felt she was different to everyone because she didn't do drugs.
‘In high school I wasn't a hippie or a stoner, so I ended up being the weirdo,’ she says.
‘I was interested in classical ballet and music, so the kids were quite mean if you were different. I was one of those people that people were mean to.’
But Madonna, 50, quickly stood up for herself.
‘When that happened, instead of being a doormat, I decided to emphasise my differences,’ she tells Vanity Fair.
‘But if your joy is derived from what society thinks of you, you're always going to be disappointed.’
