Mr Justice Bennett claims her TV rants about Sir Paul McCartney played against her

Sir Paul McCartney had no part in turning the press against Heather Mills, the judge presiding over their divorce hearing claimed in his 58-page statement.
‘She unwisely gave interviews in October and November 2007, which may have produced intrusion into her life by the media,’ Mr Justice Bennett said, referring to her appearances on GMTV last year. ‘But that was very largely self-inflicted.’
And he says that Heather’s ‘exaggerations’ led to her being awarded £24.3m rather than the £125m she was seeking.
‘If the wife feels aggrieved she only has herself to blame,’ he said. ‘If, as she has done, a litigant flagrantly over-eggs the pudding, then he or she is likely to find the court takes a robust view.’
Examples of this ‘over-egging’ include claims made by Heather, 40, that she 'saved' the career of Paul, 65.
‘Her case that she single-handedly saved him was exaggerated,’ he said. ‘The wife described her contribution as “exceptional”. I have to say her case on this issue is devoid of reality.’
It’s believed Heather’s OTT claims of her earnings before she met Paul – and her wild spending sprees after the split – also played against her.
‘I do not doubt that she modelled successfully and was a public speaker,’ said Mr Justice Bennett. ‘But the investigation of her assets and earnings as at 1999, when the parties met, do not bear out her case.
‘After a short marriage to a very wealthy man, it is unfair to expect that she should continue to live at the same “rate”.’
Last night, Heather described the judgment as ‘outrageous’.
